Sam Posey's '68 Penske Camaro. Sam was Mark's teammate for the middle part of the '68 season.
This is the same car that Donohue drove at Daytona earlier that year. Currently owned by Don Lee.

Nice photo - have not seen any photos from this area before.  I started 21st next to the Locke/Bailey 68 Porsche 911. I look to be a bit out of position - can just see my 67 camaro with the 2 white hood stripes below the banner to the left of the V.

I shared the car that weekend with Dick Hoffman (H&H Racing) and the rear axle broke just after he took over after our fuel stop. Always enjoyed racing at Mid-Ohio.  It was only my 2nd T/A start. (I once held the D sedan lap record in 1966 - another story).

Vick Campbell's Camaro at Sebring, getting ready for tech inspection. The '67 season
was the last for a mandatory passenger seat, which you can see this car has. Bumpers
were not required until the 1969 season so almost everybody left them off to reduce weight.

Thanks Jon for the excellant pics and histiry. In the Kent '67 race it looks like the Penske 16 is already experimenting with rear spoilers. This era, to me, was the very best time of road racing. Between F1, Trans Am, and Can Am it just couldn't get any better. No racing series has ever been better.
Doug  '67 RS/SS 396 auto I know the car since new

Robert, no that Vick Campbell car has not been located yet. I hope it turns up someday. I love the car.

As for the Kent Trans-Am #16 car driven by Craig Fisher, to me the rear spoiler looks to be standard height
although the Penske team had a taller "cheater" rear spoiler at two races (at least) in August '67. I'll post
a comparison when I get an opportunity.

Below is a publicity photo shoot of Dick Guldstrand and his Dana sponsored Camaro. Thanks to Tim Lopata.

Nice shot of Robert Barg's Camaro at Sebring in 1969. Robert is standing behind the car with a blue jacket and sunglasses on.
Check out his story in the lastest interview I posted.

Daytona 24-Hour, February 4, 1967. Two great looking cars on the hi-banks. Lloyd Ruby in the Ford GT and Craig Fisher in the Camaro.

Compare the rear spoiler in both photos. The car is the same but the spoiler height is different.
First picture is at Sebring, late March '67, the second picture is at Continental Divide Raceway
in Colorado, August '67. Donohue ran this taller rear spoiler at the Bryar T/A, Marlboro T/A, &
CDR T/A. The car was damaged in a trailering accident on it's way to the following race and the
spoiler was not seen again.

Is this Camaro actually hanging with a Ford GT?

no, they were in a differnt class, and the ford was a lot lighter than the camaro. That was a race that has 3 differnt classes running at the same time.
