RPO MA6
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:21:49 PM »
Are there any known/documented 69's that had the HD Dual Disc Clutch? I've read Wayne Guinn's article on the RPO many times and am intrigued by it.

Thanks,

Nick

None in the database and it's fairly certain the MA6 never made it into production for the Camaro. Corvette yes, but even then only 102 cars!

I believe Charley Lillard had a documented '69 Z once where the original owner ordered the MA6 and it wasn't built with that option. Not sure if that means it was never actually available or if it just was not available at the time the car actually got built.

Production totals for MA6 in a Camaro was the big zero. Engine build records confirm it.

The MA6 clutch was available on '69 Corvettes (only on the 3x2 L-71 and 3x2 L-71/L-89), and 102 were sold (out of 38,762 Corvettes); they were a warranty nightmare and were never offered again.

John,

What was the problem with them?

Mostly noise/vibration - chatter from the floater plate.

I drove a cement truck for years that had the double clutch plates in them and they made a lot of noise with the clutch in.

The heavy duty dual disc clutch RPO W37 was offered by Oldsmobile in 71 & 72. In 71 it only required the M20 or M22 option & 442, but in 72 they made it engine specific with the L75 & L77 engines in any model of Cutlass with the M20 trans.............RatPack..................
