Oval floor pan plugs-stamped?
« on: January 22, 2011, 02:52:09 AM »
I was doing some research and found this thread ( http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=2438.0;all ) discussion on floor pan plugs and stampings. I personally took our plugs out of our 68 Camaro and found zero trace of any stamp showing on the bottom side. Was this something that started on 69 Camaros or not all plates were stamped or???????

Can some of our experts help with this. I've been told they even look for stamping during judging yet zero of our oval plugs have any type of stamping. I even cleaned down to the metal and I do not see anything.

I just check my 68.  Each is stamped  H41 8.  Appears to be a date code on my Oct production car.

If they aren't stamped, then I guess they aren't stamped. :)   Say la V.

Attached are pictures of my original plan plugs that do not have date codes.  My car is a 05A (1st week of May) 1969 Norwood car.  I would like to know if there are other May built Norwood ‘69s with similar non-dated pan plugs, and which direction the plugs were installed.

Also notice which way the dome was position by where the sealant is located on the plug.  All but one of them was positioned with the dome facing downward (toward the exterior underside of the floor pan).  The general experience is that the domes are to face upward.

As we know, Norwood assembled a lot of cars quickly back in the day.  Perhaps a new person was on the line the day my car was built and installed them "upside down".

Good one Kurt!

Dave, talked to two people today that restore cars and was told some are stamped and some are not. The stamping as I was told is not a date code and there is some uncertanity on exactly what it means. Interesting on your plugs being upside down and have read of that being done already.

On my 09C (Norwood) car, two were stamped and two were not. All were mounted with dome up. However, whoever applied the sealant did a pretty sloppy job, as it was strung out over the floor pan. Must have been in a hurry.

Also, I was in Legends at Nationals last year, and did not lose any points for the two that did not have stamps. The judges can tell, however, if the plugs are original or repros based on the texture.

Hi John! If you had your body oval plugs re-galvanized please let me know where and thanks for the legends judging update.

Cars in the shop, mine have never been replaced and are in VGC. When I get out there, I'll shoot some pics and post.

Here are pics. of mine out of my 11A (66) LOS built car.  Of course the rusty ones are before, and the clean ones after clean up and paint.  They were just bare metal from the factory, so they aren't exactly factory correct painted.  But I'm just showing they were stamped.  As for (not being Date Code) comment, I found several 43 Date Codes on my car, 43 rd week.

I believe there were hot dip galvanized from the factory and not bare steel. The ones I removed from my 05B NOR were all that way (plated) and only one plug out of the 6 was not stamped with any codes. The other 5 were.
