2011 Indy Pace Car
« on: January 21, 2011, 10:18:46 PM »
They finally got it right.  This is what the new Camaro Indy Pace Car is supposed to look like.   Of course, I may be a little impartial.

Complete with an orange interior.

Camaro gets this honor three years in a row and a total of 7.  The only other cars to get this type of honor is the Corvette (5 times in a row and 9 total).  A close second is the Stoddard-Dayton (which got 3 times in 4 years, 1911-1914).  We are catching up to the Corvette guys, so they better watch out.

I may have to consider buying this one.

I saw it this morning on the C5 site.  Personally, I think just like last years pace car the stripes are way to much.  Just go back to the basic stripes.  ;)

I found out from a local source (I live in Indianapolis and attend the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 each year, and attended the US GP F1 Races while they held at Indy) that Chevrolet has a contract with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for X number of years to be the Pace Car (I can not confirm the number of years).  So I anticipate that we will see more Vettes, Camaros, and future performance oriented Chevrolets Indy Pace Cars in the coming years.

While I love the Camaro and Vette, in years past there was high anticipation each year what the pace car was going to be - a new GM, Ford or Chrysler product?  For now we can be assured it will be a Chevrolet.

I agree, this year's Camaro Pace Car looks great, and I am glad that they waited for the 2011 convertible to closely match the '69 Pace Car.  I can't wait for May in Indy!

I like it.... a lot.  Will watch the Auction tonight, to see what premium someone will pay to drive around the track with the big-wigs.

I think they nailed it this time!  :)

The previous 2010 Camaro pace coupe (orange coupe with white stripes and door decals) was something less than "inspred" if you ask me. BOORING!

This new 2011 convert pacer just rocks!

So far the Mods are cleaning house on the crazy $$$, and numbers muscle prices seem relatively conservative. I've only seen one Number's Camaro, a '69 white Z28 that sold for only 75K. I say only because this years BJ prices have gone through the roof! A Desoto sold for 325K+... :-\

With all due respect to JFK...it was painful listening to the BJ brass trying to pull off the authenticity of the ??? "JFK Ambulance"???

Beautiful car for sure. Chevy always does a great job with these Indy pace cars. Also when Chevy gets back into the Indy racing series in 2012 with there V-6 Powered twin turbo engine this even makes it better yet. The leader in performance.

With all due respect to JFK...it was painful listening to the BJ brass trying to pull off the authenticity of the ??? "JFK Ambulance"???

I saw just a bit of that when I passed by the TV during the evening (can't bring myself to watch much of BJ anymore - it just grates on me) and it was another pitiful display again, of the favouritism and pressure they (BJ) can put on when they want to pump up a price on a car they have a reason to push.
Its almost like " Hey people - we are not going to auction off any more cars until someone will bid this one up to what WE think it should sell for - then the show will continue"...

Whether or not it was 'THE' ambulance used, is minor in comparison to the pandering lengths they will go to to prop up a car for a friend or whatever ?? reason occasionally during the proceedings.
Shades of the green SS / Z 2/8 clone they pushed so hard up to 120K +  a year or more back - who knows what became of that car and more importantly if Gary the previous owner who blew the whistle on it is still alive?
BJ is truly a joke in my eyes...

Regarding the looks of the new pace car, generally the car looks nice and the colors pay a nice homage to history, which I like. I guess what I have a complaint about is the style of the stripes. They are done in the style of a Shelby Mustang, too close together and running all the way down the front and the back. Granted, they are a different color than a Shelby but they still say Shelby to me when I look at them. My personal preference is to space them further apart and not have them run down the front and back.

Jon, last years pace car had the Shelby stripes and they ruined a nice car with them.  This years car has the stripes and they are on  the top of the windshield and are on the dash.  I think the basic stripes would look better.
