original heater hoses
« on: November 24, 2010, 12:14:49 PM »
I'm seeing more and more "original, survivor, unmolested, unrestored" '69 Camaros for sale with pictures of the engine bay showing red heater hoses.  I've never seen a restored one with them. Did they ever come with red heater hoses from the factory?

Most of the 1969 production for Camaro, Chevelle and Nova came with a "grooved" black heater hose.  I have seen and certified hundreds of original survivor cars with them.  My own Chevelle SS396 which I purchased new also had the grooved black heater hoses.  They were all black in color to my knowledge.

Hope this helps.

Here is one pic.  Seller stated only carb, alternator and battery were changed.  I'll find another and post soon.

Those hoses were changed.  You can see the replacement style hose clamps too.

That car has a host of replacement parts, look at the basic items, air cleaner, carb, battery cable terminals, various hoses.

Most 69 cars came with the grooved hoses, but very early cars hoses were not grooved, and instead had the GM logo and a square box stamped along the hose.

Goodyear and others have offered red replacement hoses like those for years. The red color often means they are heavy duty/premium replacement hose.

They have blue also, but all those colors are ugly and distractive IMO.

Years ago when I restored my Norwood build 05A '69, I got these hoses from Rick's 1st Gen, before they were purchased by Ecklers.  The hoses were very nice repros with the correct grooves.  These repro hoses should still be available from a number of suppliers.

Are yours both the same size Dave? Both of yours are ribbed..

Pretty sure only the 3/4" was ribbed and the 5/8" plain with "GM¯"

The rib patterns (number of grooves and spacing) were the supplier identification; you'll see several different patterns on original hoses.

BlackoutSteve,

The picture does not show it but the hoses are two different sizes, typical for the SB Camaro.
