1969 Voltage Reg. Mounting.
« on: November 13, 2010, 06:05:39 PM »
I'm sure this has been covered but I cant find anything on it. I have a 69 02D build date Norwood car . Does it mount with screws or screws and rubber nuts?

Thanks CRG

69s are mounted directly to the radiator support using 3 tapping screws shown in UPC6-B7. Screws are GM# 177999 and are available through AMK as B-12096 (phosphate) or B11094 (zinc) $3 buys 6.
Can someone confirm which finish is correct please.  :)

67-68s used rubber well-nuts with machine screws to insulate from vibration and used a ground wire to the support.

Great, Already got the AMK kit. I was confused about this after a Camaro parts website list the rubber insulators for 67~69 for the voltage regulator.

So typical. Probably the same site that list the correct 67-69 Caution Fan decal.
Never believe a parts catalog.

BTW, what is the finish of the reg screws in the AMK kit?

I believe early '69 cars used the rubber well nuts. Later cars used sheet metal screws.

The norwood cars I have inspected from early cars; 9B of 68 to 10A of 69 have used only sheetmetal screws. All examples were survivor cars which have been Vintage Certified.

My 10A Norwood car had the holes for rubber well nuts. That might be close to a cut off?

I assume you mean of 10A of 69 just for clarification.

My unmolested/original 02D '69 has sheet metal screws (no rubber well-nuts), as shown in the Assembly Manual.

My 'early' 11D Norwood '69 car has sheet metal screws also.  Can't say for sure on the finish, (perhaps zinc) the bolts have seen better days.

They're zinc-plated; phosphated screws weren't used for grounding applications.
