Evaporator Housing Color
« on: October 05, 2010, 03:48:47 PM »
I am rebuilding the evaporator asembly on the 68. Could someone check their original and see if the housing is painted? My original plan was to remove what I thought was someone elses repairs and paint job and leave it bare.

So far, I used paint stripper and then scuffed the surface with red scotch-brite. After spraying on a satin clear coat, it looks very nice. The bare surface is a very dark gray color with the fibers showing.

Thanks!

Larry,

I have some pics of an evaporator assy from a 67 SS Camaro removed from my friend's wrecked 67 SS in 1976 or so. If you are interested, PM me and I will e mail them to you. They are too big to post here.

They are not painted, they went on after the cowl and firewall was blacked out.  They were sort of a very dark grey almost black color with the lighter fibers showing here and there when the car left the factory.

Cool, that was my plan.  I figured it would have been that way.
