Chevy orange engine paint

Hi all,
Just wondering if there's any consensus on who makes the most 'accurate' [hue wise] chevy orange engine paint.
I've just tried some POR-15 and it looks pretty close [from old, dusty memory though ]. Others I've tried in the past looked a tad on the red side.

I tried that POR and it looked pinkish and it didn't go on well at all.  I took it all off.  It seems there are a couple of favorites but I used Aervoe and it looks right on to me.

i just repainted the engine in my 67 rs/ss and used seymour. according to jerry m, it is the closest to orig. EN-48 is the color code. you can order online at www.seymourpaint.com. i sound like a commercial

That's extrodinary, how long ago did you try it? Was it rattle can or spray gun?
There's no pink cast in the stuff I got and it went on beautiful [spray gun] without filling in the casting.
Looks about the same hue as the cap on quanta's website, or the swatch on Aervoe's website

Quanta (www.quantaproducts.com) also makes Chevy Orange that's an accurate hue and isn't quite as glossy as most of the others; very similar to Seymour Chevy Orange.

Actually, I might be able to get the Seymour paint as they will ship internationally via fedex, who can carry this type of product.
At the moment though, their shipping/billing checkout isn't working properly so i'm still not sure of the shipping cost.

Yes, I've also noted the 'too glossy' with other products. My workaround with those was to allow 15 - 30 mins drying then mist spray to give a more satin finish.

You can't rely on color samples viewed on a monitor. Colors are not represented with accuracy. Quanta-Seymour correlation is in another thread on this site somewhere.  Seymour/Quanta are the recommended choices for accuracy. Or have a jobber mix it on their system. But don't pour it on and fill the casting texture; and throw some flattening agent in it to knock the gloss back.

My most common observation about engine paint is it's glossier than original. I've seen take-off parts that have been stored for years and they are not full gloss.

And as noted above, it was a quickie paint job just to get color on the engine. It was not thick and it didn't fill in / smooth out the surface.

Is it recommended to use a base coat high temp primer or something similar to get a durable long lasting top coat? 

Would the primer will tend to "fill-in" or soften the texture of the block and heads? 

Rattle can paint tends to spray on thicker, correct?

No primer was used at the factory. I just clean the surface with lacquer thinner and shoot it.

Seymour #EN-48.  That is the best in all the research I have done over the years.  Quantra has this packaged in their can and charges you more money for the same product.  Bottom of cans have the same codes.   That's how we knew.
