69 z28 rs
« on: September 15, 2010, 08:45:02 PM »
In 1978 I bought a freshly painted black Z28 RS from a 1977 classmate. It didn't have the original drivetrain, but the custom, wood-grain interior was complete. It's loaded with options, including: tilt steering, remote mirror, rear window defogger, speed indicator, clock, 8-track & power windows. The cowl tag shows it to be originally burgundy with parchment vinyl rood, 67 E,  (the roof trim was in the trunk), and b&w houndstooth seats, 713. I assume the stripes were white. It was built in Norwood in late June. It has the code X33D80. I believe it might be part of a run of less than 200 luxury edition 69 Z28's. The hood is stock, I don't think it had cowl induction. Let me know your opinion of this car. Thanks, Jay

Sweet car, on the CRG home page there is an option identifier section. It outlines the way to identify a factory cowl hood car, it has to do with a hole for the wiring to go through, it is a "punched" hole rather than a drilled hole.

There would be no need to do a "luxury edition" Z/28 that consisted of standard RPO options. Sounds like a "Brass Hat" zone car that was made available to dealers when it reached a certain mileage. Or dealer ordered for a specific customer. No dealer in their right mind would stock a $4500 Z/28.

My '69Z stickered at $4690.00 (has every option you could order on a Z except for tilt wheel and 8-track), but it was ordered that way by the original owner; not a "dealer stock" unit. Most Z's were pretty basic cars.
