« on: August 06, 2010, 05:35:25 AM »
hi guys,
just wondering what is the correct water neck / thermostat housing for a 1968 327 210 hp ? cast iron or aluminium ? and what is the correct thermostat 160 or 180 degrees ? i'm pretty sure its cast iron and 180 degrees but would like conformation.
thanks everyone,
cheers,
rohan

alumin ium
Ah-ha, another aussie!  :)
According to PnA, 170f [180 is fine] and I'm pretty sure the housings were all aluminium - pn 3877660 seems to cover nearly all sb and bb 1st gen motors

I would agree with the previous posts; although one year later - 69 327/210 used aluminum thermostat housing; cast iron are oftermarket replacements

I would assume the same to be true for 68.

It's probably easier to say than the way we say it.  I think the TH was cast.  I can't say just because of my Z28, but it was cast and the 69s were aluminum.

According to Group 1.153 in my “Camaro Master Parts Catalogue” (Dated July 1969) and “GM Parts History Index (Revised 1 Nov 1969),” Water Outlet 3877660 superseded 3896958 in July 1968.  According to the "GM Parts History Index," 3896958 (number on neck) was used between April 1967 and July 1968.  Both part numbers were aluminum.

I believe you want the 3877660, but with the part # on the base in 1968, not on the neck
