One of the items not on our 68 Z28 01B built when purchased was the orig. water pump with the 90 degree bypass. Realize 67 Z's and early 68's had the hex head type fitting and then it was changed to a square head design. For our 01B which one would be correct and when did they make the change?

This has been updated.  All use the hex fitting,

So the square one is not correct for any 68 Z?  I swear I saw a pic of one in your book.

I put a square one on my 02E car. I did see the same picture in my book. Who knows GM may have ran out of stock at one time and maybe changed over from a hex to square fitting for a short while. I am sure they would not stop building cars if they ran short on one small part.

I've got a hex one, but by the book I bought a square one and was going to change it out.  I'd rather not do that if I didn't have to.

I assume you did not have the orig. water pump if considering changing to the sq bypass???? And since the time frame for change was up in the air (at one time) I'd forget the change. I gotta obtain a hex one and glad I did not purchase a sq. one immediately. We ought to do a survey of our fellow 68 Z/28 owners just to see if anyone had the orig. water pump (what bypass) but sure Jerry has seen plenty.

The original water pump bypass elbow on my 02C '68 Z/28 has the hexagonal head.

Mine's an 05D which puts it in the realm of being after most of the mid-year changes.  Mine is one in the window of having left-over 67 front end parts on it.  Jerry's comment was "all use hex fitting".  So where did the pic come from?
