Any pictures of windshield mounting clips?
« on: June 14, 2010, 04:14:14 PM »
I am getting ready to install the windshield in my 68.  I forgot how the lower mounting clips are positioned and I can not find it in either the assembly manual or the fisher body manual.  Can anyone help me with a picture or a page number from the correct manual?  Also, some say the outer clips have to be installed before the fenders but I am told that is not necessary.  I can not even see the holes for the brackets.  Thanks in advance for your help.

it is certainly easier to install before the fenders. i dont have either of my cars apart right now to show pics, but there is really only one way for them to go on. they slide into the lower mldgs and attach to the top of the cowl with self tapping bolts.

Are these the clips that you are talking about?

These just slide into the molding from the center of each half-molding piece and screw down to the cowl underneath the cowl vent.

The screws under the cowl are short sheetmetal screws with a "M" on the socket head. The outer clip holes are right above the top door hinge bolt, it may be hidden by the end of the widow rubber coming from the roof line. These outer clips use the same screws. they can be installed in place but be careful of bending your stainless or scratching the paint. I have installed them after the stainless is in place with a pair of needle nose vicegrips, be sure to make sure the clip lands all the way into the trim before screwing them down. Another set of hands and eyes would be helpful.

You learn something new every day. I looked and my car is missing the end clips and always has since I've owned it. I never knew they existed until now.
