I have been degreasing a 302 that is in a car I dragged home in January. Let me know what you think of the numbers as maybe or maybe not being original to the car.Car is a 02D car 678 block with casting A88 ,carb is a holley 4053 dated 705 ,alt. 1100814 dated 8B12 ,it does have correct crank but rusty,dist.1111266 dated7G20 heads are 3917291 dated L 12 7. Oh ya engine is tighter than any motor I have tried to unc  Thanksease

Is there any numbers on the front engine pad on the left side of the block? It would hev been in front of the pass side head.

Looks like V0205MO  but hard to see without sanding it down a little bit,real rusty . I am going to soak with wd-40 for a day or two

Don't sand the pad with sandpaper, it will scratch it up. That will ruin the factory broach marks and then it will look like someone messed with the stamping. Use some fine steel wool to remove the rust. The least abbrasive the better and go with the broach mark grain.

I have talked to some people and they have suggested I try navel jelly to remove the rust. I have tried to take pictures but they are not showing up good enough to post. I have used a pencil and piece of paper and penciled over the area to show the numbers on the paper. It is VO205MO. I will leave the navel jelly for a couple days and see if it works. I have also put kerosene in the bores trying to loosen up the engine.

there should be a vin number also by that assembly date code, if the vin matches your car its the original motor.
