New here and tried to look up where I should ask about your VIN database. I have a 1967 RS/SS VIN# 124377L106786, built 3rd week Aug 1966. Wondering where it falls in oldest survivor. If you don't deal with this sort of questions, sorry for wasting your time. Gus

I will get a pic soon, my camera is getting repaired now. Just going off some old notes that I had. I purchased the car in Tracy California in 1993 with all the factory equipment except engine and exhaust. The car had not been licsensed since 1983 and still has the original black plates. I found a 67 MS code engine at the Portland swap meet, I am thinking I should post the engine in your orphans section before I use it. Is that a good idea?

I had some notes mixed up with another car. Here is the cowl tag info. Top line: 10B               G548, Next line ST 67-12437  LOS    4271 BODY, Next line TR 760Z           Y-2 PAINT, next line  W  2LG   3SL, next line   4P    5Y . This car doesn't look like it has ever been taken apart or modified in any way, has date coded ralley wheels but has manual drum brakes on the front. I thought it should have disc brakes.

Yes, it should have discs if those wheels are original.

Rally wheels were stock on the Z/28, as were front discs, and optional on other models.

Ah, but we are referring to a unique requirement in 67:

"For 1967, rally wheels were required when disc brakes were ordered."  And you couldn't order them without discs.

Old yeller; what are the date codes of the rally wheels? According to Jerry MacNeish's book, early production 67's with rally wheels had no date stamp! It wan't until Feb of 67 that dating started. So if you have dated rally wheels, they were put on later and not original.

I think the wheels just have a DF stamp on them. I have not done any research on this stuff for about 15 years, and it seems you have compiled much more info on this site than I had been able to find. Previously I have relied on self purported experts and the Camaro White Book and Super Sport Red Book. There have been some people interested in purchasing this car and one question that keeps coming up is 'what is the earliest existing RS/SS?'. I have told them it is probably impossible to tell, and I thought the Red or White book claimed that there were no factory plans to combine packages. This only occured after the cars hit the showroom floor and people started ordering them. Is this correct as far as you know? Thanks, Gus

Nope, RS was always planned and available on any and all models.

SS's (and RS/SS's) were available pretty much from the start of production.

DF wheels are 15" - only available on Z28's. Worth some $$.

I didn't edit that very good.  I meant were the 68 DF's worth a lot.  If they are, I'm taking mine off and hiding them.  I have the originals to my car on it now.

Yes they are worth a bunch.  If you drive it much you might want to put them up.  They are very hard to find.
