1968 RS rocker sheen and pattern?
« on: December 24, 2009, 08:41:18 PM »
I have seen the question asked before but have not seen an answer or any pictures, so I will ask again.  I have a 68 RS, the body is Frost Green and the previous owner had the lower rockers painted the same color.  I would like to have the rockers painted with the correct sheen of black and to know the paint pattern inside the door jam.  Any pictures would help. - thanks

Read this...  http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#BlackoutPaint

Paul

Thanks Paul - do you know what paint ratio GM used when painting these black-out areas?  The article only mentions semi-gloss, so is that 50% flat and 50% gloss black?

Levels of gloss are achieved by adding a % or weight of flattening agent, not by mixing flat with gloss. For instance PPG 9266 satin, an interior paint code, has less gloss than semi-gloss. And there is a debate whether the rockers are gloss or semi. Here is but one thread stating it was full gloss. There are more. And bear in mind that lacquer shot at full gloss unbuffed as it would have been done then is NOT the same as urethane full gloss used now. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=4930.0

You would want to match the patina of black laquer sprayed out and not buffed and polished out.  Use some spray out cards to get it right.
