Matching Numbers '69 SS restore HELP
« on: November 24, 2009, 09:25:25 PM »
I am a newbie and have read some great stuff on this site and I need some HELP.  I am about to start work on a '69 SS with matching numbers. Would it be best to use all the original parts that are useable or is it OK to use repo to make it look newer?   The dash pad is not cracked but is slighty warped. Does anybody know how to get the warp out or should I replace it?  As of now the only thing that I see to replace is carpet, door panels, and that piece of card board behind the back seat.  That piece has a single speaker in it.  Is that factory or did someone just put one speaker in.  Would anybody recommend  Rick's or Yearone for parts?
ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated

I've had good luck with Rick's.

Thanks  Big Al. I'll give it a try when time comes.  Any other tips on  do's or don'ts  would be a Great Help. I would like to put it back as close to "showroom" new as possible.

I missed your question on the rear shelf with single speaker, mine has this also. RPO U80 optional rear speaker was available with AM pushbutton radio, front or rear antenna, and installed on the passenger side of the rear shelf at an added cost of $12.50. The cover measures 9 and 3/8" X 5 and 3/8" and is black with very small holes covering the entire surface, held down with four chrome screws. As far as the shelf goes, I'm not sure who makes the best repop part and haven't seen any good looking originals for sale in quite a while.
I would use all original parts as long as they are usable, but that's your call. I like to keep mine as original as possible.

Hope this helps and good luck!
