DX1 stripe question
« on: September 11, 2009, 04:06:58 PM »
Were there any restrictions as to the use of this stripe with the hoods available in 1969? I'm trying to determine if the DX1 option could be ordered with the BB stack or ducted air hoods. I've never seen it applied on true survivor cars unless it had the standard flat hood. I don't see a problem with the ducted hood but wonder if the stack location would prohibit its use with the BB hood.

Not available with SS or Z28. Read about all the options HERE.

Thanks Ed, I didn't think it was available but was told over at TC that it was possible to delete the D91 stripe on an SS and order the DX1. The poster stated that he'd seen one in a Camaro Recognition Guide, a big block RS/SS car - hugger orange with black DX1 stripes.

Just flipped through my copy of that book. P110 shows DX1 stripes on an RS. Blacck & white photo, stripe looks black. photo on a white flat hood pg 112, page 124 has a photo on an SS but hood is up, so only nose portion is visable, caption incorrectly, states DX1 availabe for SS only, another photo on pg 159. that was all I found. Kurt recently posted a photo in another thread, of the known orignnal DX1 on a cowl hood. It was a COPO.

I gotta find a copy of that book! So it was possible to order this stripe on an SS or COPO? Do you remember what thread Kurt posted the photo to? A search for DX1 stripe only shows this thread. I sure would like to see pics of a DX1 on an SS and cowl hood.

the photos in the book are B&W and not real spectacular. You can only see the underside of the "SS" DX1 hood. The book is in print. Most vendors should be able to get you a copy. Author is Hooper. He was autographing the books this summer at Carlisle at one of the vendor sites.

My double mistake, the photo I mentioned was posted by William, not Kurt. It is a also ZL1, not a COPO.

Here is a link to that thread. The photo is the last on in the thread at this time.

A ZL-1 IS a COPO...

No DX1 on Camaro SS. The car in Hoopers book is known to be a clone.

Thanks for clearing that up everyone. Mistakes seem to be the norm in this thread; I mistakenly typed D91 instead of D90 stripe. :-[

That sure is one sweet and rare ZL1. 8)

Put this thread on the track again... ;)

I really like the DX1 stripe option and I'm sure I want that on my car in the future but I need more info..and pics!

If you put this DX1 on a hugger orange car which color is the most common on the stripe then, B or W? ..It's not that obvious when you look in the CRG description....

All stripe colors are based on the body color and top color. The stripe chart in CRG here documents it, but for an HO car, no vinyl top = white, black top = black.

OK, so it´s the top color that states the stripe color? :)
My X44 has 72/72 as paint code and that means hugger orange body and top and therefore the DX1 stripe should be white then!?

Yup, for some colors the top color determined the stripe color.

Yes, I'm with you here now! But you mean that a car with a green top couldn't have a stripe at all?

the only way you could get black stripes with a hugger orange car is if it had a black vinyl roof. so to answer your question, your code 72 72 car would have white stripes.

Yes, thanx, I understand it now! :)
