Hello all, new to this site. Great info. I think I have a tank not submitted yet, AND not listed in the compilation. I have a 10A LOS 68 L35/M40 car with a tank date code of 67 42. In addition, after cleaning it, I've discovered production marks on the right top side of a handwritten "5" over "6". If this is a duplicate, sorry. I may have missed it in reading the the 16 pages...….Thanks again, GREAT SITE!

Here's the latest and greatest compilation.
67 has a calendar week code. 16 D 7 would be the 16th week of 67, day shift. 40 6N would be 40th week of 66, night shift.
The format changed in 68 and 69 to have the week counted from the beginning of the *model* year. The extended 69 model year used tanks dated for the 70 model year.
LOS and NOR data is intermixed and shows the same pattern.

67:
11A  42 6D  (stamped 42 9D)

In the past when we've seen such stencil markings on sheet metal, it's been stencil markings identifying the sheet metal going into the stamping plant..  ie.  in this case, if that's what it is/was, it would be the raw sheet metal marking on metal going into the gas tank manufacturer...  ie.  it's not a marking applied by GM...

Yes Gary that is why I posted the photo.  I never said it was applied by GM.  It's as you stated a manufacturer mark.  I would have thought it was obvious being that as it is more common on 2nd gen tanks.  Just not seen as often on 1st gens.

Maybe this should be a separate research topic, but I'll add it here for now as it's related to fuel tanks:
I mentioned previously in this thread that I pulled a tank dated '21 69' from an 01B LA car. I checked that tank out recently in connection with Lloyd's thread on tape style used on the fuel sender line; noted at the tank sender locking ring that the sender is also dated with '16 9'. Thought that a 5-week gap between sender and tank was high, based on the demand rate of 1-for-1 at the factory.
Wondered if anyone else had noted similar gaps between those items?

My LOS 67 has the tank stamp.

5 D 7 (the D is reversed)

And a fairly complete  blue stamp or stencil that reads:

 12 19
51865
MADE IN (I'm assuming USA got lost over the side.)

I have pictures but can't make them small enough on the phone.
