Cowl Induction Hood for 69 Camaro

I have a 69 Z28 with a reproduction cowl induction hood. The hood has a bow in it so I am trying to find an original hood. I found someone on-line who claims to have a brand new GM NOS Cowl Induction Hood that has never been used. Is there a stamp or part number on this hood that would confirm it is a GM original?  Is there anyone out there with an GM original cowl induction hood that is in superior condition that they would like to sell?

I think you can still one buy direct from GM. Can't vouch for price or quality.

The only one other than GM NOS I would use is Goodmark, with a warning. It may still need a lot of work to get it set right. I have had them fit well and I've also seen them need to be tweaked alot. Anyone else have any luck with another brand etc?

A GM hood will have a angled notch at the rear of the side view that looks like this. A repro notch looks more squared off. You want to see the green and white part number sticker on the GM part.



The little round hood bumper cups on the underside are different on a repro as well The GM will have 3 spot welds per cup holding them on while the repros I have seen have 4 spot welds per cup. One last detail - the GM hoods will fit right.

Theres two GM dealers that still show hoods in stock. Part #3949708. Badger truck center in Millwaukee 414-344-9500 And Chambers Chev in Bellingham Wa 360-733-7997  Hope this helps.

I checked with Badger to confirm, the part # is shared with another part for truck brakes now. They do not have a hood in stock. Sorry, Try the other one or keep looking...

I checked my repro hood and it has more of a straight angled edge than a notched edge like Mark's pic shows but the hood bumper cups only have 3 welds - so the notch appears to be a good way to confirm a GM hood but maybe not the numbers of welds.

John, Thanks for checking with Badger - I had sent them an email with no reply.  I checked with Chambers Chevy and they do have a GM hood. Unfortunately the parts guy there is holding it for his own project. Sounds like a possible conflict of interest. (Ha Ha)

I found a small restoration parts company in Michigan that has one but there price is a bit rich - $1600 plus shipping costs. A salvage company in Washington has one also but they are treating it like Gold and want a substantial sum of money to part with it.

If anyone comes across a reasonably priced GM Cowl Induction Hood (preferrably close to Dallas/Ft. Worth) let me know.

If the bow is a mis-alignment along the sides that can be corrected.

I can't say for certain if the bow is limited to the sides - but if I assume that it is - what is the process to correct it?

I've had to do 2 of these before. Block the front and the back corners and jack down the side in the middle.( These were bowed on the sides wrong, same principal applies to incorrect front bows ). Obviously put a wood block beween the jack and the side/top of the hood. I don't know what equipment availablity you have. I used the lift arm as an overhead bottle jack or porta-power station; whichever weapon of choice you prefer. Gently please. Piece of cake really.
