1968 manifold pre-heat sheild & tube for 327/210
« on: March 20, 2006, 12:10:07 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get the manifold preheat shield and tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner for a 327/210.  I haven't seen these as a repo.  Also will a 327 setup for a 68 Chevelle use the same part

Thanks
Mike

I feel your pain.  By far and bar none, finding the correct air cleaner, heat stove pipe, and exhaust manifold with heat shield was the most difficult part of putting together the correct 327 / 210 hp engine for my '69 RS.

You are correct, in that these items do not exist in the aftermarket - not highly demanded.  Suggest eBay and the various swap meets.  I found the correct mainfold, with heat shield attached, at Hot August Nights in Reno back in 2003.  Air cleaner and heat stove pipe I found at salvage yards.  I also found (and still have) a '68 air cleaner for the base 327 / 210 hp set up.  I assume that you have the air cleaner?

Thats correct.  Any idea if a sb set up for a 68 chevelle would be the same for the camaro?

Rich, I am restoring a 327/210 car and I can not find the same items. Would you like to sell what you have? Brad

Heartbeat City has the tube now for 1969. I don't know if it will fit or not on a '68

I have what might be a 68 air cleaner for a 327/210 hanging on the wall in my garage.

About 8 yres ago when I was going through the same process trying to find these pieces for my 69, I picked up this air cleaner at a salvage yard, got it home, and realized that the snorkel was pointed to the driver side (68) where the 69 air cleaner snorkel points to the right (passenger) side.

I'll post some pics later this week of what I have.  If you can determine that it iis what you are looking for, I'll be gland to let it find a good home.

Yup!! Harder than Hell to find these parts. I have looked for over 6 months, I tried the lead at Heartbeat City and even though it's advertised they told me it is no longer a part they carry or stock. This is the first part we tossed as kids when we found out we could get an extra 10 HP going with an open style element air cleaner. If i could only get back back all of my original pats I tossed in favor of added bolt on horsepower I'd have saved a lot of $ on restoration parts. But to answer your question try Camaroland in Santa Maria Ca. He found an original for me and I got it in 2 days. Good Luck Hunting.

Thanks for the help. Rich, I have to call the shop that has my car and check on the air cleaner I have. It appears to have to short of a snorkle, but I am not sure which way it points. I tossed a pile of parts on my 68 RS I drove in high School also. Never knew smog crap was worth 1600 dollars. I have 2 cars and need several things for both. I am looking to get some help from this site and the good people that care about the original cars still. Thanks, Brad

Brad, send me a pm with your email address and I can send you a pic of my 327/210 hp air cleaner/heat stove & tube which is currently off the car.  I also found a date code inside the air cleaner.  Keep an eye on ebay and you will see the air cleaner, carb and manifold pop up from time to time.  The heat stove was my holy grail piece and I found it on ebay by keeping a keen eye on folks selling 68 small block engines or parts cars as it was sometimes still attached to the exhaust manifold.  Picked it up for 20.00.  In the last 5 years I may have seen 4 or 5 sold on ebay and usually over 100.00 for a thin piece of metal.  Which 2bbl carb are you looking for?  Mine was an AC car and was very difficult to find, but I did.

Brad, I have a correct 2bbl carb for an A/C car.  It was professionally rebuilt a couple of years ago.  Includes the hot idle compensator and a date code tag.  I also have the correct heads and intake for a 327/210hp car (dated around early Nov 67).  I might also still have the air cleaner and heat tube (but not the stove) but I'll have to check - I'm  on the road until late tonight.  I am looking for that tube that goes from the snorkel to the heat stove for a 4bbl - since you mention having 4bbl parts on the car maybe we can do a trade if your parts are for a 68?  If not, my price for what I have is reasonable - I'd like to see these go to someone who is restoring a car back to stock.

I have to take back what I stated above, ...thought I still had it, but can't find it now.  Sorry.

Hey 68rsz28,if 68rs327 does not take your parts,I would be interested in your heat tube.maybe your heads as well.

Ok, I should make myself clear. I need a air cleaner for a manual shift car, and the carburetor # I need is 7028101. I have a the intake and heads. Any help with a 4-speed saginaw and (2) correct reverse light assemblies for the saginaw would be a miracle also. Thanks for everyone trying to help!!

Sorry brad68RS, my parts are from an automatic car so the carb in 7028112.
Sebastien - my heat tube and air cleaner have already been sold, but I still have the heads (as well as intake, timing cover and a few other parts).  I have sent you an e-mail with some more details.
