Engine VIN location
« on: April 23, 2009, 04:08:01 PM »
Hi Guys.
My 69 RS has the partial vin # and suffix code on the front of the engine block behind the altirnator. The build date is 12-B 1968 and the vin # is 124379L513112. some research says it should be by the oil filter, not so on my car. Just wanted to share the info. have a good day,
steve

The location bounced around at LA. http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#partialVINs
But your location is common for that timeframe.

What's the work order # on the cowl tag (e.g. A123, on the same line as the build date)?
What's the engine code?

Thanks!

My Z28 is a 12B build as well, I found the casting# and casting date but had a difficult time finding the vin.  I can vouch for not finding it near the oil filter.  I the only numbers I found there were foundry numbers.  Was your car a Norwood or LA car?

Does the same hold true for Norwood cars (1969 that are 1968 build) that are 12B - VIN could be at either the pad or filter location? What about 12A cars?
Thanks

No. NOR and LOS processes did not change at the same time.

Hi Kurt
Where would a 12A Norwood built VIN be - on the front pad or oil filter area?
Thanks

It normally should be on the pad.
