Help with verification 69 z28 ?
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:01:16 AM »
Hey guys, new here. I have been reading alot of information here and I have come to find that I still am no closer to verifying what kind of car I have here. Here are the #s from the trim tag and vin#

ST 69  12437    NOR  132392
TR712                      72  72
11D

Vin# 124379N550021

The hidden vin# are there and match. The car is a 4 spd, console gauges, tach, 12 bolt (BT probably not correct),  Front pwr discs, single 3/8 fuel line, M22 (wrong date), 4 leaf springs.
From what I read, the non X coded cars are hard to verify ?
What else is there to look for ?. Car came with no hood, but in the trunk there is the cowl induction flapper and housing.
I am not well informed on the ins and outs of these cars, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Where does the speedo cable penetrate the firewall - below the wiper motor or adjacent to the fuse block?

Is there a 3"x5" steel plate with two holes in it mig-welded to the outboard side of the driver's side rear rail, just rearward of the rear shock for the muffler hanger?

What's the highest graduation and redline on the tach?

Does it have a proportioning valve in the brake pipe on the outside of the subframe rail below the driver's door?

Thanks. When I get home this afternoon, I will check this and post the results  The firewall has been blasted and most everything but the booster has been pulled off. It took the booster assy off yesterday. I also removed the brake line from front to rear and do not remember a proportioning valve.  Is this an  in-line proportioning valve, or a block type apparatus ?

Thanks

I did not see this valve when I removed my rear brake line. Seems as though it ran from the valve located below the M/C all the way to the rear axle with no valve in between.

Hey John. I checked what you asked for.

It does have the welded plate approx. 3 x 5 with what looks like a small hanger with 2 bolts holding it on. It is on the outboard rail, drivers side.

It does not have the prop. valve in line with the rear brake line

The tach redlines at 6000 and total grads to 7000

Thanks

About forgot, the speedo cable looks as though it entered right next to the accelerator lever.

Thanks

Here is a pict of my M/C assy.

Your master cylinder is not original.  It has been replaced with a Bendix unit.

I will get the complete rear code tonight.  You say the M/C is not correct?. Is the valve layout below it correct ?

Thanks

The plumbing, distribution block, and metering valve arrangement is correct, but the original master cyllinder has been replaced.

The rear code is as follows:

BT 0415 G
      E

Cannot hardly make out the date code but it looks like  B80   But that does not look right,.....right ?

Thanks

April 15th. It's not original to the car. If the casting # ends in 341, then it is a 70 axle - and probably is then stamped CBT.
