Dash Pad

Well it looks like I am not going to be able to use my original dash pad unless I go with Just Dashes. I am not sure it will be worth it. The plastic under the vinyl is cracked and the vinyl has shrunk pretty bad revealing the plastic edge.

What vendors do ya'll recommend if I go repro?

I ordered the repop for my 67  - OER.  It was junk and sent it back.  Then ordered the 67 repop that was wraped vinyl "just like the original" - OER - for $250.  It was junk and sent it back.  I wound up taking my original pad (with a depression and two cracks in the vinyl) to a local apholstry shop with some of the vinyl dye paint to match.  The guy did a nice job and you cannot even tell where he fixed it - he said the trick is patience and mixing the dye into the patching compound.  $50.00 and a really professional job - beats the delay and costof Just Dashes.  You might check around for a better core and see if a shop near you can fix a crack or two.

Just dashes recently quoted me I think around $450.00 to redo my original 67 dash. I am gonna bite the bullet here and send it to em. Luckily these dashes are small, God knows what they would charge want for a larger dash.

I have posted about Just Dashes before.  In the case of 67 and 68, the dashes are too big when you receive them back.  They do not look factory, like they are on steroids.  All edges are too fat.  NG.  Beautiful job, they just do not look original to the car.

And for those of us with 69's they won't do the dashes at all.  I don't believe there is any other company other than OER that manufactures repo dashes.  The OER dash on my 69 looks okay, but far from perfect.

At least original '69 dashpads can still be found once in a while, as well as '67s.  The scarce ones are '68; if anybody has an NOS black '68 dashpad they would part with, please contact me <ttimberlake@servicetitleco.com>.

Didn't your car have one of these Just Dash jobs in it?  I'm sure it did and I flagged it when I was doing the on-site inspection.........corrrect? 

'68 GM dash pads are out there, you just have to call everyone in the biz, you'll find one.  Try Bob Harris at Camaro Specialties.  716-652-7086.

I would venture a guess that if you discussed the "too big" issue with Just Dashes that they would/could remedy the issue?

Jerry, yes my '68 does have a Just Dashes resto job and it is gorgeous, but it did not pass muster when you first looked at the car last May.  I have been looking for one since then.  I think I called Camaro Specialties last summer, but will try again.  Thanks for the tip and hope to see you in June at the Nationals.

Nothig against JD's, they do a nice job......and they're very expensive.  They just do not look like a factory dash pad when you get them back.
