Anyone know this group?  And their hit records from the 1960s?  Still going strong!

Sure do!  The group is The Fireballs singing their #1 hit "Sugar Shack".

Lots of info about The Fireballs here...  http://www.fireballs-original.com/

But Jerry, this is how I remember them...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DW8ecqu0Iw

Actually, that video was done about five years after Sugar Shack was a big hit.

I have the good fortune of playing drums for Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs and we are playing at the big Buddy Holly tribute weekend coming up at the end of the month in Clear Lake, IA.  The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake is where Buddy played his last gig.  This year is special as it's the 50th anniversary of the crash and they have extended the event to run through Monday Feb 2, 2009.  It was a Monday night, Feb 2, 1959 when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Dion & the Belmonts, Frankie Sardo and others took the stage at the Surf.  We play on Jan 30th.

This year promises to be magical and there are rumors from a P. McCartney showing to a reunion of Dion & The Belmonts.  I am humbled just to be a part of the show.
I'll keep CRG posted on daily reports once I get there.

Nice work on the drums Jerry!!!  I use to have Mark Knoffler from Dire straights charter my dads fishing boat throughout the 80's and we used to play guitar alittle together. I always had my acoustic on the boat. That is the only time I have ever was lucky enough to play with a rock star.  Great work on the drums very cool.

Member of Clear Lake High School class of 1981 right here. I remember those cold Feb. Iowa nights as well as those warm hardwood floors and cozy wooden booths at the Surf. My parents danced to the big bands there and I watched new bands making a name like Head East, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent & Amboy Dukes, and Joan Jet among others. We forgot how to dance in the 70's untill Disco reared its ugly head :) Really a unique opportunity for a small cow town in the middle of nowhere Iowa.
