which liquid into the hydraulic system for the top ?

i'm restauring the top of my convertible 67, i have remove all the components . like the hydraulic system of the frame have never been change i' ld like to do that, but i have some differents information concerning the fluid that go inside:

some litterature said "dot 3 brake liquid"
some others " ATF fluid"

so

red ATF is what most of us use.

my 40 YO liquide as no color, so i can't say if it was original red or aqua colored,
i think that when i ll have tto refill the system i ll put some good new ATF

i put some ATF to refill the system and, the ATF has not the same density that the liquid inside , the red colored ATF stay at the highest portion of the circuit.
so i think that the " body by fischer 67 book" say wright:  it was original brake fluid !!!!

The 1969 Fisher Body Service Manual says to use ATF.
