Factory Painted Wheels
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:47:23 PM »
I just purchased a '68 6 cylinder, 3 speed coupe from a son who's mother bought it new. Everything appears to be original except she had the column shifter converted to a floor shifter.
The car is Ermine white and the wheels are also white.
My question is: Did the wheels come painted to match from the factory?

Most likely, yes.  The standard hub caps were not full size (sometimes called dog dish caps).  Unless it had optional hub caps, the wheels should be painted body color.

Thank you. I have seen pictures of Camaros with matching wheels, but had not found any documentation for my model.
I do in fact have three of the four hub caps matching your description. Will a fourth be difficult to locate?

I've seen them quite frequently on ebay. From singles to complete sets.      You might also google hubcaps.   I know that there a couple of places that specialize just in caps.     Try ehubcaps.com.   I had it in my favorites but haven't been there in a while.      J.R.
