re. 67/68 multiplex set up
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:33:01 AM »
I've read with interest about the '69 multi-plex set up, but would like to know about the 67/68 set up. ???

At present, I have an am/fm radio, and a multi-plex that could hang under the dash, with a shroud that covers the hangers.  In addition to this, I have an 8-track orig to the 68 year(on the floor), and am wondering if all this can be hooked up, without any inline switches.

I actually don't have the multi-plex installed, and wondering if it's worth the effort to do so?  I already have a GM tissue dispenser under there, and a bazooka control for the woofer in the trunk as well.  In other words, the multi-plex would not have sufficient room to fit.  So, selling the plex, I guess would be an option, but not too sure of it's worth?

What would you do?  Get rid of the dispenser, and add the plex...or leave as is, and sell it?  I think I'd have a fight on my hands with my wife on this! ;)

Any info/input as to the multi-plex of these above mentioned years would be a help.

Thanks in advance.

Get a '68 Assembly Manual, CC--it has all the illustrations and wiring diagrams for the audio systems. Any Camaro resto vendor will have one. Good luck!

Which 8 track do you have?  You need a 7307831 setup for a non console multiplex setup.  An 8 track/multiplex radio setup doesn't use the 4 knob passenger side multiplex control that you see in non console multiplex radio only setups.  That 4 knob part was an early 68 option for a multiplex only radio.  I don't think you could get both a multiplex and an 8 track in a 68 until about 1/2 way thru the model year.

Also, if opinions as to whether to keep MP or not?  And it's worth, If I want to sell?

But, thanks for the input.

The hookups are in there, at least in general showing wire harnesses and locations of components.  The actual wiring connections are only in the Delco service manuals for the hardware you have.  What are the actual part numbers on the paper tags of your various peices?
