1969 AM/FM radio option
« on: June 03, 2008, 12:26:15 PM »
 Was there a factory AM/FM option without mutiplex using two rear speakers?  I don't see that setup in the AIM.  If the answer was yes, was the front dash speaker installed or left out in addition to the two rear speakers?  Thank you for your help.  Bill

RPO U69 was for:  Radio, AM-FM, pushbutton; front fixed height antenna.

My 69 RS came with this option.  The radio is not stereo, and there was only the one dash mount front speaker.

I have since removed the radio and put it away and replaced it with a Custom Autosound unit.  I also replaced the original front dash spaeaker with a dual stereo speaker.

RPO U79 was for AM / FM Stereo radio.

See the attached CRG link:  http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#RPOSpreadsheet   and download the RPO Spreadsheet for available options 67-69.

U80 added one rear speaker. Had to get U79 to get two rear speakers.

Me and my car both thank you guys for the responses.  I wasn't sure at first.  Now I can restore this the correct way.  :)

Another question.  U79 A1 Multiplex states receiver asm,... install the same as U63.  Is the same AM/FM radio reciever used for both U79 and U63.  If so,for U63, the radio face says stereo even though the system is mono.  Would that be correct or were two different recievers used?

U63 = AM
U69 AM/FM mono
U79 AM/FM stereo

All it means is that the receiver itself installs the same as the AM radio, ie it has jam nuts on the volume and tuning knob threads, and a rear support strap.  The receivers themselves are different, but the mounting method is the same.
