sub frame painting

Was the sub frame painted prior to installation? Was the fuel line on the car prior to sub frame painting? I just took my fuel line loose last night and the sub frame under the fuel line bracket is pretty much unpainted.

Welcome over here Lawrence... how is the Resto coming? Can't wait to see the OG car when it is done...
Sub frame was painted when it came from he manufacturer... not very good paint though.
Most of the time the paint sticks to the line clips and makes it appear as though there is no paint under them.

We are suppose to take the car to the painters shop next week. I still need to remove the brake and fuel lines. I hope to get that done some time this weekend. It has been fun taking the car apart. I dont know if you remember the interior of the car but it is pretty much mint. When taking it out I could tell it had not been touched since March '69 when it was installed. The carpet date coded tag was on the carpet, the gauges had a date coded sticker on them, all the hardware was there etc. Pretty much the same for the mechanicals but not as virgin. Pretty cool stuff. I hope we can save all the original body panels. I would rather pay more for the body man to make patch panels than pay for repo body panels.

I kinda wish I would have taken on painting the car for you... It was so original, like the black one.
It will be extremely nice when it is done. OG RS, no spoilers flat hood and V-top... can't wait to see it.

Yep and Endura... forgot about that... how authentic are you going back with the resto? Drips over spray the whole nine yards? I know the interior might as well be new... it is beautiful... Gold done right looks Killer...

That is a good question. I want the car to look as it did when it left the factory but I dont have any reference material to help guide me. When I did my Corvette I had the NCRS manual. Do you know of a reference manaul to use or should I research this site?

There really is no reference manual other than Jerry McNeish's Book. If you don't have it I recomend that be one of the first things you buy.

As far as over spray and etc... you are going to have to carefully clean and see what you find.
There are alot of very good threads over on the yenko.net site showing highly detailed restorations from the Super Car Workshop among others... they are very accurate in their replication of returning cars to how they find them... paint runs and etc on firewalls and sub frames etc.

Speaking of firewalls...I am NOT going to cover up my original P T B stampings. I know I can reproduce them but I plan on protecting them and the trim tag before painting. I may just try to touch up the firewall. But the inner fenders and the radiator support etc. need new paint. I dont want to make it look goofy of course but there will be trial and error.

I have Jerry's book. I got it the first week I had the car. I will plow through the websites and probably bug you too! I am in no hurry so I hope to do it right.
