Hallo from Denmark
« on: April 17, 2008, 03:02:03 PM »
Hi

I am totally new on this site, and just wanted to say hallo, before placing some questions :-)

In oct 2007 I bought my first Camaro ever - an original California black plate true 67 RS, which arrived from CA to Denmark dec 21. And yesterday it passed the danish  car inspection and I payed the car-tax and got the licenplates handed over AND got the first driver - very nice..

Looking forward to learning a lot abour Camaroes and you guys..

Regards
Claus

Welcome, and congratulations on your car.  You'll find a good group of people here with a fair amount of international participation, though spread thinly across a big world.  Rich

Claus,

Yes, Welcome!

I would like to know how thorough the car inspection is in Denmark, and what is the tax rate on a classic car?  Or is it the same on all cars?

Hi Phillip

Well Denmark is knowen to have a very high car tax( if not the highest in the world ) So here you pay for 3 cars but only get 1... new ones taht is.

In the past 4-5 years the law has been changed so you can import a classic car ( older than 35 years ) and get a tax discount. the tax differ from every car and is depending what that exact car cost from new in the year it came.

I payed DKK 17.200,- ( USD 3.580,- ) in car tax. Regarding the inspection - yes they are very strict and go thru the car inch by inch.......

Then there is the import tax :-((((((((((

If the car is les than 30 years old it is ( invoiceprice + shipping + insurance x 10% import tax X 25% special DK tax ) so if you buy a car ans ship it and that total is $ 10.000,- you can ad another 1.000,- and then again 2.750,- = 13.750,- and then comes the cartax..

if the car is older than 30 years it is only 5% = 10.500,-

YES I know it sounds insane but it has allways been that way so we have learned to live with it.....

Claus,

I understand.  We recently explored importing a restored car from Thailand in my car club.  The taxes and import costs were more than the cost of the car.

I did some business in Denmark a few summers ago. You've got some beautiful country roads to drive that Camaro on!

I'm in management for a major, world-wide HR group, and I was in Copenhagen (and got out into the surrounding area for a little sightseeing) for a speaking engagement.  On that trip I was also in England and Norway, and only saw one Camaro the whole time.  So, I know your car is pretty rare where you live.
