68 bumper jack

Yeah, that's why I was trying to get some answers here to know if I should buy it or not.  Since I didn't hear back from you as to what yours looked like I just went for it.  At least the date is closer.  How’d you know?  Were you bidding on it too?  How about those pictures and the info on your jacking instructions???

The jacking instructions are REPOP circa 1987 classic Camaro ( I painted my car that year and likely desrtoyed the orig) and applied the repop 3949516 3-6-68 version (My Car is a (E) 5th week of DEC 1967 build) I did not find this number in the 68 AIM?

Jim, that’s apparently the correct sticker for a 68 but IMO it's only correct for cars built after that date.  I know my car had the 3909124; I took a picture of the original Thank God!  I would say that would be the correct one for your car also.  Thanks for the info.

No Chris, I wasn't bidding on it, my jack is original.  I was just curious because in all of the above photos the mast is trapezoidal and mine is square.  Also, all of the ones I've since found for sale (including the one you bought) have been trapezoidal.

...both are trapezoidal.          But like Ed stated, there was more than one supplier.

Yeah, it's listed for a 67 coupe.  I got mine at a swap meet, make sure it's the paper version if you want it to be 100% correct.

The "square" cross sectional Camaro tube jacks are generally from those made in the Van Nuys assembly plant.

My 02E  Z28 out of LA has a square jack in it,who knows if is born with I cannot tell you that. same as another member that has some different holes in the base

Hate to be such a P.I.T.A. but can someone please post some pictures of this square jack?!?!  Not sure what the secret is and why no one will post pictures!!!

Here are some pictures of the bumper jack from my 68 Coupe, 04A Norwood built. I found no markings on the base or mast, which is triangular. The jacking instruction label was printed on 1-10-67. I am the second owner and have owned this car for 20 years so I am positive of the authenticity of the jack. Hope this might help.

Hey thanks for the pic's!  Can you post a pic of of the jacking instrucions and whats the PN on the sticker?  Also, standard coupe/RS/SS/Z? 
Anyone with the square jack???  Paul, you must be done with your taxes by now...or did you file for an extension?

Here's the jacking instruction label. Unfortunately, the part number is not readable. The car is a base coupe.

I don't believe there were multiple styles of jacks. Every 68 jack I've seen has been the triangular style (not the square) like stovebolt's, Ed's, and jack #2. Not to say there couldn't be different versions, but I've never seen them.

There were multiple suppliers of the base, so there's many versions of that. But I'm not convinced the jack had multiple suppliers and, if there were, they would all be the same style (i.e. triangular) to fit the base.

Btw, there is a larger triangle post size that was used for big cars. The base is way too big to fit a Camaro/Nova jack.

THANK YOU for that reply, I have never seen a square jack either and that's why I was pushing for the pictures (and guess why they never appeared) because if there was one, and it was for LOS cars, I would have needed it.  Boy you just took a big load off my mind!  Now if I could just find one with a 7M date! 

Another question though, shouldn't the shafts all have a stop on both ends so the body can't be removed?  The one I got from eBay doesn’t have it at the top and the body comes right off the shaft.  It does measure 32.5 though, thinking it was for a different car with a longer shaft and was cut.  Sure makes it easier for me to send that shaft out to get plated though!

So where did my jack come from?  It was in the car when I bought it in 1980.

FYI, I inspected a '68 04D Los Angeles built "survivor" with it's original jacking instructions (part #3947628) dated 2-9-68.  Jack was dated 3D.  More details at this CRG thread...
