Real bad news... that block has been decked...

Well the good news is I only paid 14K for the car and the guts of the block are correct I'll get some good light and a better digital camera and take another run at it. I shouldnt have used that shot. The camera added details it doesn't really have. If its the font and spacing thats at issue I'm SOL. Any data base samples that rule this one out?

Yep it is the spacing and etc... plus the machining marks on the block... but for 14k you are more than ok!

Nope. My 1st orange car was N684692. Do not know VIN of the JL-8 car.

There were several other orange/orange Z/28s in the area.

I would give $14k for that car all day long, especially with that Pace Car interior  .

If the tag is good, I think you scored even with the engine issue.  It looks OK to me, Kurt what do you think?

The tag is good, the block stamping is bad. But I really think you did good at 14K. I would love to own that car.

AS OF APRIL FIRST, SPOILERS WERE MANDATORY AND THE PROCE OF THE Z-28 OPTION WENT FROM 473.95 TO 506.60 TO INCLUDE THE PRICE OF THE SPOILERS. AS FAR AS THE DUCTED HOOD, THERE IS A HOLE IN THE FIREWALL ANOVE THE FUSE BOX FOR THE HARNESS TO RUN THROUGH. I THINK IT IS 3/4THS OF AN INCH IN DIAMETER. SEARCH CRG FOR A THREAD ON IT. IT WAS JUST DISCUSSED NOT TOO LONG AGO.

I think what William meant is that 05C was too early for D80 to show on the tag.

After looking at the photos of this car... how original is it? the stripes look "right" on the back... Has the car been painted? The TT looks as though it is oringal finish especially with the paint misted on it...
Give us some more info... us guys who love original paint cars are always on the look out... even if the original paint is bad, I still like to see the way the factory did it...

I still have yet to get it home as it's still at my buddies shop. He's been taking some photos for me but they leave much to be desired. He pulled the engine out so we could inspect it better. This was one of those deals where we ran into a guy last June at a swap meet and got to talking about his friend who had an old Z28 in a building boarded shut for 15 or 20 years....we've all heard it before. I continued to follow up on letting me take a look and finally hooked up. I knew going in the Z was priced at 14K and wasn't expecting much. My friend took the trip to see the car with me on the cell. When he gets there he was more than a little excited at what he found. This is my first Z28 although I'm far from a virgin with first generation camaros. I'd appreciate any and all thoughts on what I have and how it should go back together. We have sorted out and inventoried what was on the car as well as what came with it. Of course this block is a big question for me. Do I keep it as a restoration block or does the car deserve a correctly dated DZ? It's an 010 block dated E139 and has this V0602DZ restamp? I have no idea whay they wouldn't have stamped it better for an 05C build car? Maybe it was bought like this?

It had headers on it but also came with the original smog bpump and exhaust manifolds.

Interior has cleaned up well but the drivers seat has a repairable split at the piping otherwise nice! I do have the right wheel too.

Even the driver door panel and headliner is good.
