spoiler nuts
« on: January 24, 2006, 05:34:23 AM »
Hi There

Can anyone give me an answer on the fasteners used on 1968 early design spoliers. My originals were;

1. rearmost; acorn nut 1/4 NC  0.500" tall
2. innermost to car; hex nut 1/4 NC with captive toothed washer  I have a mix 1 pair is 3/4" washer the others 9/16" washer, both are cad dichromate plated.

What of this is correct for 1968?

Cheers

Arno

To clarify, I am referring to the rear spoiler.

Chris -

If you go to this CRG thread...  http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=954.0

Look at JohnZ's photo (reply #1).  My 02C '68 Z/28 has the same fasteners in the same place as his car.

Here's JohnZ's quote...  "My unmolested original 02D Norwood Z/28 with factory D80 has domed "acorn" nuts across the rear, and hex nuts with integral conical washers across the front."

Thanks Paul, was wondering about the size of the washer for the keps nuts.

Chris, I don't want to remove my keps nuts to measure the washers as I don't want to disturb the factory sealer under them.  I measured them on the car with a compass caliper and came up with 23/32" (width of washer).  Hope this helps...   :)

Has been discussed quite a bit, and it seems as though the change from the keps/acorns to all keps roughly correlated with the time of the short spoiler phase/run out.

edit: didn't realize this was a 68 discussion.  What I posted is for '69.  :-X

No worries!  Anyone got a good side view pic of a original acorn nut?

One of my pit crew racing buddies, Mike Williams has two survivor '68 Camaros with OEM spoillers, I know they're acorn nuts but I will get him to take photos.  Both of my survivor cars do not have spoilers.

Here are photos of the acorn nut and spoiler stud/nut on my 02D '69.

Yup, those are the same as on my car!

Chris, I don't want to remove my keps nuts to measure the washers as I don't want to disturb the factory sealer under them.  I measured them on the car with a compass caliper and came up with 23/32" (width of washer).

Chris, now you can see what I meant sealer-wise from JohnZ's second photo.     :)
