67 AM/FM and rear antenna
« on: January 03, 2008, 02:38:22 PM »
Was it possible to get the rear antenna with AM/FM in 1967?  I think I saw something where it said that the rear antenna was not available with AM/FM.  Also, are there differnces between 67 and 68 Radios?  Thanks for the help.  And while I am asking questions does anyone (which vendor) make a decent repr rear antenna?

My understanding is that the AM/FM radio was not available with the rear antenna.  There are small differences in the radios between 67 and 68.  I know the font of the face of the radio is a little different.

Thanks, that's my understanding also.  Anyone know how to tell the difference between a 67 Radio and a 68?

I believe on a 67 there are dashes between the numbers. For instance on FM dial 102 -104 - 106 and 68 just had  102  104  106. Its been a while since i investigated this but there are differences between the dial script. Hopefully someone can confirm....

Just want to correct my above post. 1967 am/fm were part# 986824 and 68 were 7303241. If the tags are missing the easiest way to tell is 1967 radios have no am/fm on the lens near the switch and 1968 does have am/fm on the lens by the slide switch.

Thanks for the info.  Here is a link to a picture of a 67 AM/FM on Ebay which confirms what you are saying about how to identify.

I am not looking to buy a radio, but I have a 67 with an AM/FM with rear antenna.  I am trying to figure out if the AM/FM was added at a later date.

Well as been stated, the rear antenna is an AM radio only option, so either the am/fm was added or the rear antenna. A little detective is all it takes.

OK thanks.  The rear antenna has been there since day 1 as far as I can tell, so the AM/FM had to be added later.

You could try Jerry MacNeish.  Camaro High Performance.  He had some NOS 68 antennas.
