I have a 1968 10D camaro, So does that mean it was assembled in oct. of 1967 for the 1968 year? and would all my casting and parts have a 7 on them for the year? also, I have a muncie 4 speed, what should the stamp be and would it have a vin?

It was assembled in and parts should be dated 67.  The Muncie I can't say for sure, as I'm in on Z28 only, but I think the casting # on the case should be 3925660.  It should have an assembly date of say P7Rxx and have a partial vin #.

Thanks for the reply, I understand the date process now, but my car is 10D L48 90%  original and the trans is 3885010, dated P1021 which works with the car but I know muncie changed there date stamping for the 1968 year but when in the year did they do it? Was it the start of the 1968 production or a couple months into production?

I didn't know about a change in date stamping until 69, where they added a letter to denote m20 or 21 etc.  Is your vin on the tranny?  I only have Z28 info for most of my reference material.

A '68 Muncie should have a 5660 main case, and the date code (Muncie "P" stamp) should be P8XXX (letter and two numbers); it should also have a VIN derivative stamped on the transmission.

Kind of sounds like you might have a 67 Muncie.  The case #'s are 67 Muncie.  There could be a vin stamp almost anywhere on 67's.

3885010, dated P1021

That would be a 1966 muncie.  They started putting the year in the stamp in 1967 (P7xxxx) your stamp does not have the year.

OK! last question since I got two different awnsers:  The car was built in late sept. of 1967 for the 1968 year.  would the trans. stamp be, PR7xx or PR8xx? I need a correct awnser so I know what I need to dig for.
Thanks

Should be P8XXX - the year designator on a Muncie (the "8") refers to the MODEL year, not the calendar year.

All 1968 Z28 Camaros received the 3925660 case........even the early cars.  Have documented dozens of early cars that I've rebuilt over the years.  The 010s were phased out after the 1967 model year.
