There is a salvage yard near where I live that has a many older cars with the many “typical” parts still intact.
During the restoration of my 69 RS Z, I spent a day at this yard, look for a few odds and ends, and noted the date codes on various items vs. the build date of the car for reference. My notes were taken 12/18/97. I can not verify if these steering boxes were ever replaced and original to the car, so take this info as reference only.
The box assy date code were all stamped on the al. box cover, in the machined pad area on the RH (passenger side) of the box. Two (2) of the covers still had the oval yellow decal toward the back LH side area of the cover under a layer of grease and dirt. Sorry I did not have a digital camera back them or I would have photo documented the data codes and boxes.
