Work order numbers

I have a 1968 Z28 built in L.A. My question is the work order # on the trim tag is S355 which is the February 19   and the 355th body started on that date. The car is a 02E car which would be the last week  of February that year which happens to be Sunday the 29th of February being it the only day of the fifth month.Did it take a week to build these cars?  I realize the work order #s were made up a couple days ahead of being attached to the body in the L.A. Plant. Any one else with a LA built car with the work order # on the trim tag a week away from the date code on the tag?

Sorry I had some wrong days because of wrong calander.S355 would be 19th of feb which was 4hweek and car was 5th week of Feb car 02E. I guess if it took a week to build the cars this all adds up as the work order nubers were made a couple days ahead of starting body build. Still looking for someone with a LA car to compare the trim tag build date to the work order number.Thanks

The S355 on your trim tag is the Fisher Body body scheduling code.  The "S" does not represent the 19th day of the February, but the 19th day of the Fisher Body production calendar for February.  Assuming they worked Monday through Friday only with no holidays off (anybody know for sure?) in February 1968 your car would have been started on February 27, 1968.  February 27, 1968 is in the fifth week (05E) of February 1968!  Read this for more detail and info:  http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#CowlTag

The Fisher Body body scheduling code on my 02C Van Nuys built '68 Z/28 is L188.  L = the 12th day of the Fisher Body production calendar for February (or February 16th, 1968??).  February 16th, 1968 is in the third week of February (02C) 1968!

P.S.  These dates are just an estimate by me.       I don't know if the Van Nuys plant work Saturdays or had any holidays off (Lincoln's birthday, Washington birthday, etc.) in February 1968.  Maybe JohnZ knows.

There were very few Big 3 holidays in the 60's - only the biggies (Christmas day, Thanksgiving day, Memorial day, Labor day, 4th of July, etc.). They worked an occasional Saturday when demand required, but nobody has ever documented which Saturdays were really worked.
