69 Horn Relay

cleaned up a bunch of paint on the relay and this is what I found... part # or date?  Guys?

Gary,

It's the last three digits of the p/n (1115890) and the voltage (12-Volts). You must have a late 69. This relay started seeing usage around April of 1969.

Have seen original cars with 890s in the Feb '69 B/D area too.  For those who don't know the 862 was basically the same relay except for the # and clear plastic vs the 890 w/ black plastic.

That is so cool...

yes the car is a 05A.... it was full of cobwebs etc but still working fine.

My original 02D Z/28 has the 890 relay with black plastic.

That fits the typical pattern.

I did some more cleaning on my horn relay, and found numbers 889 stamped into the metal part. Is this a familiar part number? 03 build Norwood car. It does have the embosed cover with Delco Remy and Made in US on it.

The 889 relay was used on the '71 Corvette; don't know offhand what the other usages were - maybe Ed does.

The 1115889 was used as a service replacement for many years for most of the other (original) relays. It was superceeded by P/N 12339248 which I belive you can still get.

I have seen a couple of 03A&B built cars with 862's, and had black plastic, although most seem to be white/clear plastic.
