hey guys need your input

hello guys,

first question is

what would be the correct mono leaf springed open rear end for
a base coupe with the engines listed below?

327 210 hp with a saginaw 3 speed manual trans
327 210 hp with a saginaw 4 speed manual trans

would it be one of these  >>>>  2.73 or 3.08

i was just trying to find an 10 bolt open rear that would have been originally
used in my 68 born in the forth week of april 68

also what would be the stamped axle code and casting date?

second question is:

what are the part numbers for speedo cables for the above engines also.

also kurt i found out by removing my rug that my 68 was a non console
floor shifting car(does this sound right)

someone tact welded a piece of sheetmetal over the original shifter hole
then cut up the trans tunnel for a hurst super shifter.

thanks for your help and input guys
also sorry for the long post

Mark...my '68 is a very early Norwood car and it had a 3:08 open 10-bolt originally. I still have it. It was a 327 car with a console and I figure it had to have had a 3-speed or Saginaw 4-speed because it has monoleafs. God only knows what transmission came in it from the factory because the data plate on the firewall is long gone. But consoles were the exception rather than the rule. And I can relate to some idiot butchering the transmission tunnel--when I got my car in '83 there was a HUGE hole where someone had installed the Mr. Gasket Vertical-Gate shifter on the M-20 that was in it. I've since made a patch and welded that gaping hole closed! Good luck on your car!

Mark,

The base V8 engine (327/210) would have come standard with the 10 bolt 3.08 ratio with either the 3 speed manual or the 4 speed manual. The 2.73 was the optional "economy" ratio while the 3.55 was the optional "Performance" ratio. The stamping for the 3.08 would be "PA" and the date would be a day or so, to a few weeks prior to the cars build date.

The speedometer cable part number would have been P/N 6477132 (or P/N 3878814) for the base 3 speed, and P/N 6454863 (lower) and P/N 6477129 (upper) for the 4 speed. (The Saginaw 4 speed used a 2 piece cable.)

Mark,

I made a mistake on the part numbers. I've edited the above to reflect the correct numbers.
