grey/white spatter paint in 67 trunk?
« on: June 04, 2007, 12:41:36 PM »
Is it possible that my car came painted with grey and white spatter paint in April of 1967? Every bit of it looks like the grey and white paint and I have compared it to other cars with the aqua and black paint and it doesn't look anything even close to that color.

The GM paint if very close to correct from what I have read on this forum. If you search on spatter paint on this forum, you will find a couple people who make an almost exact match. I have been trying to get an answer to my question for about a week now, but no one has come forth with any answers.

I have posted about this before.  Larry Christensen at Camaros Plus markets the best available trunk paint on the market.  Maybe someone can find the link.  About $65 a quart and one quart does one trunk.  Have to be applied with a pressure gun.

I would call it a dark gray with white dots.

That is correct, dark grey with white dots. So it is possible that a 67 could have had this color combination instead of the black and aqua combination that most seem to have had?

So which is correct?  Grey or black (with dots, spots, or what ever one wishes to call the flecks of color)?  Is it plant specific?  time specific or just random?

Larry Christensen of Camaros Plus can be reached at 303.420.6229.  At least that what a 15 year old business card says. I bought a few parts off of him but its been years ago. He's in Wheatridge, Co.

I am fairly certain that the trunk in my '67 convert is original...it appears to be black...will re-examine and try to post a photo...I'll check my '69 307 coupe as well as I am sure it is unmolested

OK here are shots of the trunk of my '67 convertible...it was a daily driver until I bought it in 2003.  It has been repainted once (befoe my stewardship).  The trunk had a home made pad installed (sort of like astro turf)...It does not look reprayed in spatter to my eyes but I lack the expertise of others...the flash washed it out a little but it looks black (or charcoal) to me and not grey...is this the proper shade?

Here is the trunk of my '69 307 coupe...63K miles purchased from the original owner in 2005.  To my eyes it looks very similar to the '67 above and I am failry certain that this trunk is original.  The car has been reprayed twice..in Kelly Green and then white...some white overspray is visible inside the trunk.  Is this the correct shade of spatter?  Would one call this grey or black?  Would GTO;s in '69 use the same shade of spatter?

Look for you there.  I will have my 13,000 mile, all original 67 Z28 is a special display at the Camaro Nationals.  We can check out the trunk in it too.

See you there,
