« on: May 30, 2007, 06:55:16 PM »
was the rear end houseing on a 67 camaro painted or not? Some say yes black, some say no. What will be acceptable on a march built 67 with a 12 bolt? Also the radius rod was that painted?  ???

Paint the rear end cover bolts black when you do it.  Many do not and have them phosphated so there's a contrast.

All axles were painted black as a complete unit.

Is this true on '69's as well?  I have it very good authority that the entire rear and axle should be painted black (this after I already have completely detailed in natural metal).  What black should be used?
Thanks in advance.

Paint at least the outer circumference of the brake drums while you're at it. There are enough vintage magazine photos to convince me that was how the factory did it. A few of the pix show the face of the drum & end of the axle also in black. The pinion flange was masked and left natural.

Should be all black except the pinion flange and the brake pipes and tee. The park brake cables were in place when it was painted, and the brake pipes and tee were installed later, at the car assembly plant.

The Pinion Flange used a spiral wound paperboard tube, similar to the one on the front a NOS waterpump.
