1967 SS - Returning back to a points Dist
« on: April 11, 2025, 01:34:05 AM »
I bought a 1967 4P that was pretty much a 90% restoration. But the 350 was replaced with a 72 454. All of the SB to BB parts were changed out as required to make a SS396 tribute. But they used the long water pump and brackets and an HEI distributor. I want to restore it back as factory as I can with a short water pump and brackets, also a back to a points ignition. Just something I wanna do. It's the old school in me I guess. Problem is, it been so long since I have worked with a points Ign that I dont recall what is all involved.

I dont recall if there was a ballast resister or a difference in the wiring? Can someone layout what I need to verify and confirm when swapping back?

Side note: a few things not working i'm trying to track down with console gauges.
1. Batter Current Gauge not working2. Temp Gauge not working but connected to the temp sensor3. Fuel warning light in dash always on even when full.4. Tach not working, told they had issues with HEI and should work when put back to points.

67s had a resistor wire from the bulkhead the ignition coil. It's a cloth looking wire that was white with some red in it.
