69 Rear Fold Down Seat Carpet Question
« on: February 10, 2025, 02:20:16 AM »
Posted this one on camaros.net - nadda...

Looking at replacing the original carpet on my fold down rear seat back. I see two types of replacement carpet - with / without this vinyl that appears to be sewn on the front edge of the carpet - but - mine does not have that. I've seen others with no vinyl on the edge....

What's the extra vinyl on the front edge for?

I see no reason for it being there.

I've never seen the ones with that vinyl strip at the top, seems to be on some of the OER carpets.  Not sure what the benefit is for having that go under the top trim strip, when the entire carpet is glued to the seat back.  Nor do I recall that on my seat back carpet when I did the first resto back in the mid 80s.  And I would think Firebirds were the same carpet as Camaros.

Yeah - makes no sense to me.

Can you post a few pictures? If I'm a betting man, I'd lean towards the Firebird owning the trim, not the Camaro.

Dave - I saw pics of original Firebirds and Camaros with those fold down rear seat back - top edges - they're all the same.
That flap of vinyl must be used for another model car that has a fold down rear seat.......Nova maybe?  Not even sure if that was an option in Novas, etc.

Only thing I can figure is that vinyl flap will go over the edge of the metal backing and fold under for folks who don't have all the parts for the rear seat back - in particular that 3-pc front edge that is virtually impossible to get.  I've never seen those parts on eBay, etc.  So I guess someone can make a fake edge with a piece of wood, etc and cover it over with this vinyl and tuck it in between the seat / metal back.
I have no clue.
