Capacitor Mounting Bracket
« on: October 17, 2024, 10:51:01 PM »
I was looking through John Hooper's 67-68 Camaro Reference Book and ran across a section on the mounting of radio capacitors, page 125. It shows that the 396 engine uses a mounting bracket that the capacitor is attached to. The part number was 3771778. Further reading shows this part was used on 59-62 fuel injected Corvettes. It shows in the 67 Camaro assembly manual, page 386, that this view was removed 4-6-67. Just wondering if these were used on early L-35 and L-78 67 Camaros.

Depending on the options on the car, there can be several capacitors to reduce the possibility of that pesky buzzing.

Both my 67 L35's have the capacitors on the coil and voltage regulator as well as the ground springs in the wheel hubs.
Attached are pictures of the 04B LOS L35 survivor showing the coil and original voltage regulator & capacitors (or condensers as called in the auto industry). The cap is mounted on the coil bracket. Both cars only have the AM radio option.

Thanks Mike. I was just wondering if anyone has seen that 396 mounting bracket on any 67 L-35?

The pages in the book appears to be for an over the counter radio installation kit, and not the assembly line installation. It’s dated 5/5/67 on the sheet at the bottom.
My AIM for page 386 shows console stuff, and not the capacitor which is U63/69–page 402..
My parts book also shows they are all a common bracket when you needed a replacement-as of 1974, so your quest isn’t easy. I’ve added a few pictures to reference.

Here is a shot of my 67 assembly manual. I copied the 396 section and put it where it would have been prior to 4-6-67 when it was removed. This should apply to 67's only. Again, just wondering if anyone has seen this set up on a 67 L-35.
