Trunk mat tear repair
« on: September 11, 2024, 05:15:21 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has a good way to glue-weld a tear in an original trunk mat?  I have reinforced the back of it with the Flex-Seal rubber tape which does stick well, but the crack is still pulls open a bit.

If it's pulling away then it's not sticking well. Try plywood seam tape. It's very sticky.

Thanks for the reply.
I think the problem is it is on a corner right where the trunk floor pan bends up to the sides.  The flexible rubber tape on the back is sticking well enough, but is flexing a little and so the tear opens up a bit.  The tear itself needs to be bonded together and I'm not sure what kind of glue or bonding system to use  I'm tempted to use some type of heat but don't want to make a melted mess of things.  i would of course like to make it as invisible of a repair as possible.

I think with the flex seal tape already on, you're going to be limited to possibilities. I doubt you'll be able to remove it, but you might be able to slice it and try to get the gap closed and retape it.
