69 Front Seat Belt Tunnel Bolt Covers

Yakking with a buddy of mine and we got onto the subject of seat belt bolt tunnel covers.  We both have 06A cars and he was sold covers that have a tab with a hole in it and mine are totally different - open with a metal clip inside that secures itself to the bolt head.....Its a pita to make it work.

So - the question is - which one is correct for a 06A car?

I looked at the seat belt section that was done a few years back and didn't read anything about the differences of those covers - or I may have read right over that.

There were 3 types of anchor bolt covers used in 1969 Camaros. The first was the type your friend has, a tab for the bolt to pass thru. This was used from all of 1968 and up to Feb 69.........The second type is the style you have on your car, a metal insert with 3 clips to snap onto the anchor.   This was used from January 1969 till June 1969.......The third type has a tab for the bolt to pass thru but sliced on the bottom and has a metal snap button to keep it closed. An improvement over the first design.
   Having said all that all three styles had overlapping start and stop time frames. These vinyl boots were used by all 5 GM seat belt suppliers. Hamill, Irving, General safety, Robbins, and Bay Trim. These time frames are not set in stone because of many variables.
  camaronut. the ones you have (type 2) would be the correct ones for your car (6A). Hope this helps. Clete

You can see them on eBay - all three types are there.  You have to know which one is right for your application.  Camaros weren't the only cars to use them too.......they were in everything GM sold back then.  Type in "Seat Belt Tunnel Bolt Covers" - for Camaros / Novas / Chevelles, etc.

Yep - those are it.  They look like they're in decent shape....

My 05A Norwood build '69 Z28 has the same type 3 Anchor covers that Clete posted. I purchased my Camaro back in 1995 with just over 45K original miles. My Camaro had a quarter panel replaced and was repainted under previous ownership; however, the interior appeared to be original with the code 713 black Houndstooth deluxe interior and date coded seat belts with Anchor Type 3 covers.

Data point.. A Type 2 boot seen here is from an untouched 03A X11 711 trim COPO that was in a recent MT article. You can see the little dimple at the end of the boot from where the metal clip was molded in.

I met Clete thru a mutual NCRS judge friend when I was acquiring assistance for seatbelt restoration on our 68Z. Well known and respected thru the NCRS crowd and he did an amazing job on our belts.
