Let's help my neighbor correct his 68 RS engine bay
« on: July 08, 2024, 05:10:12 AM »
Hello everyone,

I spoke to my neighbor about his 68RS that has zero rust, all original drivetrain and sheetmetal that it would be great to take his car to the next level by correcting everything underhood. The car does appear to have 1 repaint. I thought it would be fun to "crowd" correct this car by posting a thread here, with permission of my neighbor of course. That's my crusty black L78 parked next to him at our local cars and coffee. Thank you for your help!

If you really want to correct everything in the engine compartment then the engine & trans needs to be pulled.  At the very least the engine.  Firewall needs to be touched up "black out", A/C box needs to be pulled if you want to paint the firewall correctly but could possibly tape around it, remove booster paint, clean paint off pad, I would find a correct intake and qjet, set of painted valve covers.  I know there is more but just depends how detailed you wanna get.

Do you mean cosmetically correct to factory delivery? As in replacing the valve covers hold downs, fuel filter, etc?

the valve covers might be correct, installed on the wrong sides, pcv should be drivers side breather on the pass side.

After speaking with my neighbor, essentially right now I want to help him parts swap the aftermarket stuff to the correct GM parts with correct dates and plan for a firewall repaint later.
Which are the correct intake bolts? head marking?
Intake casting number and date range?
Carb #?
Correct distributer and date range recommended?
of course anything else you see and would like to help with.

Thanks everyone!

I would definitely start by reading everything on the CRG website http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml . Many of the questions you have will be answered there.
