67 engines harness extension ??
« on: June 28, 2024, 12:00:25 PM »
Good day,

I'm having trouble identifying an extension on my engine harness at the firewall connector. I don't see it in the AIM. It does look factory.

Has anyone seen one of these before? The brown wire with no connector on the end wasn't hooked up to anything.

It's a LOS assembly plant specific item, and shown in the 67 AIM under UPC J50 Sheet A4.  I believe it's been discussed here before, and thought to be due to the plant making several models on the same line.

I'll be damned! Thanks Pete.

So it was only used in LOS on cars with power brakes. Very odd to be only one planet for something deemed a necessity.

In the thread some say the extension has been seen on NOR J50 cars as well.  Could be inaccurate, or maybe a glitch and some were send to Norwood by mistake. Anybody's guess at this point.

When I had my 67 restored a few years ago, I asked American Auto Wire if the harness was still available, using the part number in the old thread I linked.  They said it looked like their part number, but didn't see any designs.  I think Factory Fit and AAW merged in the past, or Factory Fit is part of AAW?  Fortunately my original was in very good shape, so I had it reinstalled with the new AAW harnesses.

I did read that thread. Good info there.

I reached out to AAW with photos of mine and the AIM photo. Keil said he would research it with production and said, if we have all the connectors would could probably make it.

Well, we know they have the connectors and wires because it just a short piece of the engine wire harness.

So, we'll see what happens. I'll update this thread when I hear back from them.

Thanks again,
Tim

If they are able to produce it, post up their part number etc. for future reference.  Thx

An addition question on this harness extension.

What did they "normally" do with the extra brown brake wire? On my original the boot was gone but the wire was there.

I'm wondering if they normally cut it and tape it to the harness like they did on the heater blower motor wire when a unit had AC.

See the attached photo from my 67 04B LOS.
Looks like it was taped back but it has the boot.

Well, it doesn't look like they can make it. They don't have the connector with the two tangs on it.

Tim,

Unfortunately we are not able to make this harness.
We do not have the connector with the 2 tangs (the broken one in your photo).

Does anyone have any idea who makes that connector?

They, AAW, no longer makes this extension harness. They no longer have one of the connecters to make it; see my message with the note from AAW customer support.

Thanks for the photo Mike.

Can you tell me which of the two wires is going to the brake switch? IE the one on the main harness or the one on the extension?
