Holley 4053 Substitute
« on: May 09, 2024, 11:56:17 PM »
Can someone tell me the difference between a Holley 1850 and a Holley 4053 and whether the 1850 could work on an original 302 69 Z28 as a substitute for a 4053?

1850 is a 600cfm vac sec single feed carb.  You can change the bowls and front metering block to make it a dual feed using a different "Y" lines to bowls.  Mounting pattern is the same between the 2 but the base plate where you get your vacuum for the brake booster will be in a different location.  It will work fine but you will need to re-jet the carb to take advantage of the small CFM but should be close out of the box.  Also has straight leg boosters on the 600 vs the dog leg style on the 780.  Nothing performance wise just different feature between the 2.  If you are buying a new carb I would look at just a restoration carb (reproduction) or a Street Avenger 670.

"3310" 750 CFM vacuum secondary is a close match.  It comes as a manual choke but they do offer a different version with a built in electric choke.

The 1810 is more of a universal economy carb model.
