Correct orientation power top relay
« on: March 20, 2024, 01:56:18 PM »
Good day,

What is the correct orientation of the power top relay on the firewall.

Likewise, is the wiring and other info for the power top in the AIM?

edit -the relay is in the AIM under C06 and the connectors should be orientated to the drivers side.

My last question is, should the two poles both be silver or one silver and one gold?

You’re 180 out.

Thank you for the photo!! It also shows me the routing of the wires!

Is it possible to tell if one of the poles on the relay is gold?

FUSE- IN LINE.UPC C60 E8 (for 67') & possible other two years
Self resetting thermal "Circuit Breaker". with a corresponding Amp rating. #10 Wires Orange & Black.
Minor point of clarification.

As to the Color, referring to the Threaded posts?

Car is looking good Keep up the good work.

Hi Tim,

I replaced mine years ago with a 4849847 NOS unit and it has a copper plated longer stud and a zinc plated shorter stud. It is possible the NOS is different to an assembly line era part.
I have seen some with both studs copper plated too. Plus, it is a 40amp breaker. I see aftermarket breakers are stamped 30 amp. I'm not convinced that is correct though. If you look up the P/N in the GM WIKI, it lists it as 40amp.

Just a suggestion (WAG)
In our Electrical world polarity is sometimes designated by the Silver and Copper coloring.
Silver Neg, Copper Positive.

Remember the Radio Shack Clear vinyl speaker wire by the roll, we used to purchase in 1979!

I do not believe it is relevant in the case of an inline fuse-Breaker, as it should operate regardless of polarity or "Relative" polarity.

an Amp is an Amp when it comes to AC & DC current limiting circuit breakers.

Yeah, I am seeing both silver two post and silver/gold post repops and was just wondering what factory looked like.
